1. The Decline of Literacy a. There is a record number of citizens and inhabitants of our country that do not know how to read or write proper English.
b. This is controversial because there are so many immigrants that have grown up learning in a different language.
c. I believe that if you are living in this country, then you should at least try and understand our language.
d. I would like to research the statistics of individauls in this country that are not familiar with the English Language.
2. The Decline of Public Education
a. Test scores are declining and the overall financial state of public education.
b. This is a controversial topic because some states are on different levels of this topic. Some are worse than others, some are better than others, etc.
c. I believe in the improvement of public education.
d. I would like to learn the different stances of different political figures on this topic. I would specifically like to research South Carolina's public education system.
3. Government Size and Spending
a. Some citizens believe that our government is too large, which leads to more spending.
b. This is controversial because it invloves different political parties and the stances of all of them.
c. I believe that America does need to be a bit more conservative in the area of spending money.
d. I would like to research the salaries of paid government officials and how that affects our economy.
