Funding in Education

The state department of education did not spend enough money on special education last year. Their punishment has been delayed for one year. People are arguing if this is right or not. Governor Nikki Haley refuses to utilize the $144 million that could bail South Carolina out of their education issues.

Governor Nikki Haley announced in June 2011 that South Carolina Education funds were being cut by $56 million dollars in the start of the 2011 school year. Haley and the new SC Superintendent of Education are unmoved by pleas from the SC School Boards Association to accept the $144 million that has been set aside for education in South Carolina. The Education Jobs Fund is a new program that is federal. The program will provide $10 billion in assistance to states to save or create education jobs for the 2010-2011 school year.
