F. King Alexander is an assistant professor of higher education at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In this article he is arguing that the state of education in our country has decreased in the past decade. He believes that due to the fact that critics have placed such great expectations on education, that education has failed in the eyes of many. He states that our nation is in need of new governmental demands in order to obtain an increased educational performance.

This article speaks about the adequacy of school funding. The article states that many states have been looking to increase their educational performance since the 1970s. The adequacy of educational funding is an issue that relies with each individual states' legislature. Due to the fact that this is hard to measure, this presents an issues that has many opinions within it.
